Alison Brie, Jewish Actress from ‘Community’ and ‘Mad Men,’ Totally Rocks

While you were at your Seder singing dayenu, Alison Brie was rocking to a different tune. The Community and Mad Men star performed with her band, Alison Brie and the Girls, at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City. BuzzFeed has a few of the videos—like her covers of Hall & Oates’ “Rich Girl” and her co-star Childish Gambino—but we’re waiting for her cover of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” (though she will have to compete with Taran Killam for our favorite recreation of the song, even if it’s only in dance).
All this excitement led us to the all-too-belated discovery that Brie is Jewish (just like her Community alter-ego Annie)! Born Alison Brie Schermerhorn, surprisingly enough, it’s her mother—Joanne Brenner—not her father, who’s a member of the tribe. Like any good Jewish girl, her first performance was at her local Jewish Community Center.
Now that we know Brie is Jewish and a singer, we’re crossing our fingers for a Drake collaboration.
