The Jewcer:

Best Bars in Brooklyn? So far a couple of shrewd choices in our Forum offered by Izzy and user emanuelle. Joey, this one's for you: "The Royal Oak in Williamsburg. Best mint juleps in Brooklyn. (Our collective Jewish grandparents are rolling over in their graves at such a concept.)" {Izzy}

"les enfants terribles. it's a great late-night spot, with nary a kate spade bag in sight. the dj is amazing, and you can roll up a cigarette–gasp!–and smoke it!! it's nearly like a modern-day opium den."{emanuelle}

Advice Tailor-Made for These Editors: Simpleliquid on the Feedback Wiki thinks our Recently Published category could use rejiggering, and she practically feeds sweet technocratic bon-bons into our mouth with this suggestion: "How about the option of an overview like on the A&L daily site www.aldaily.com. This format is really easy to look over to find interesting articles. It probably has about 100 articles and it only takes a short time to go over it. A&L has a few categories (articles, new books, essays/opinion). For Jewcy, the categories could be different (Features, reviews, Interviews, commentary etc…)."

And here's an extra special design complaint from someone who'll make me sleep on the couch if we don't heed it: "The pull-down menu of Authors is alphabetized by first name. I didn't know we were all so well acquainted." {bdawg}

The World:

“He is a master of counterpunch, deception, circumlocution." Thus spake Brent Scowcroft (who generally sets the bar pretty low as Henry Kissinger's chum in realpolitik) on Ahmadinejad's slitheriness at the UN yesterday. More Holocaust denial, more ADL histrionics. Why not pay Mahmoud back in his own coin and start questioning the veracity of the CIA's take-down of Mossadegh? Same pedantic literalism, same shit-eating grin: let's see how he charms to that mode of "containment." [NYT]

Anyone who calls his grandparents "Mom-mom" and "Pop-pop" can't be Jewish. You sure George Allen's not Presbetyrian? They're like the Episcopalians to the Jews' Catholics. [WaPo]

Olmert's popularity takes a buffeting. "68 percent of those interviewed were unhappy with Olmert's performance, compared to 40 percent in a poll on August 11 – days before the Lebanon cease-fire was declared." [J-Post]

Jim Baker and Tammy Faye's son is a Christian hipster. I defer to Izzy on this entirely. Well, almost: "You look like a hipster. I don’t feel like I’m a slave to fashion. I don’t want to wear a bandanna around my neck." A bandanna? That hasn't been cool since Gary Cooper did it. [New York]

The Dersh fights back against The Guardian: "I suppose I'll always be, to people like Porter, the stereotypical hairy, wild-eyed Jew." (Porter said Alan looked like Animal from the Muppets. Well, he does.) [Slate]
