Jewish residents of the Palladium and Lafayette dorms at NYU received a fake eviction slip from pro-Palestinian group, NYU Students for Justice in Palestine, on Thursday.

2,000 phony eviction notices distributed to NYU undergraduate students read: “We regret to inform you that your suite is scheduled for demolition in three days. If you do not vacate the premise by midnight on 25 April, 2014, we reserve the right to destroy all remaining belongings. Charges for demolition will be applied to your student accounts.”

The flyers were intended to mirror eviction notices delivered to certain Palestinian homes in Israel. Although the intent of stirring controversy was extremely real, the bottom of the flier noted that, “This is not a real eviction notice.”

NYU spokesman John Beckman told Gothamist that the school is investigating the incident. “It is disappointingly inconsistent with standards we expect to prevail in a scholarly community,” he said. “Were it to be the case that the fliering was done [at Palladium] because it was perceived to be a dorm with a higher proportion of Jewish students, that would be troubling, dismaying and a matter of deep concern for our community,” Beckman added.

Imagine waking up for your 9 a.m. class, drinking coffee, and receiving that notice? Definitely unsettling.
