A big mazal tov to One Direction star Harry Styles, who turns 21 today. With 23.5 million Twitter followers, Taylor Swift’s most famous ex is bigger than Jesus, Pope Francis, McDonald’s, and the Beatles combined. He’s also an enthusiastic philo-Semite—which, I know, is a terribly old-fashioned word—but truly the only way to describe this boy-band goy who just really, really, really loves Jews.

Styles routinely tweets about Jewish holidays, and has his sister’s name tattooed on his arm (correctly!) in Hebrew. In 2013, dad Des had to step in and clarify that young Harry was, alas, “0% Jewish.” But that didn’t stop London’s Jewish Chronicle from naming Styles one of the 100 most influential figures shaping Jewish life in the U.K. in 2014. Scoff you may, but this is a bloke who can get 148,000 retweets for the statement, “I had gloves on all day.” (Look, nobody said it had to be a profound influence.)

The world is wondering if One Direction’s Harry Styles is Jewish. He has a tattoo in Hebrew, he tweets with Yiddish slang, and he once was photographed dining at a kosher restaurant in Golders Green in London, the Jewish Chronicle reports.

The 19–year-old heart-throb’s regular references to Jewish life on Twitter have become the subject of fevered speculation among One Direction’s Jewish fans, and an equal level of bafflement for his more than 15 million followers on the site.

But despite all of that, Styles is probably not Jewish. His father even said so:

The unstoppable Tavi Gevinson dropped by The Colbert Report last night, wearing an extremely festive sweater for the occasion. The 16-year-old Rookie editor talked about her high school English class (she hasn’t read the assigned Robert Frost poems yet, oops) and the mysterious world of teenage girls.

Colbert suggests he write a column for Rookie called ‘You’re Not Wearing That’ (which would actually be hilarious), and then Gevinson offers the 48-year-old dad some One Direction-themed fashion advice. The best part is when she explains that his show is a ‘cool dad show,’ and that she watched it last night with her very own cool dad.

He doesn’t really understand, so she breaks it down for him: “Other Capital C Capital D ‘Cool Dads’ like your cool dad show.” She rules.

Four of the Maccabeats—presumably the ones who graduated college—are back at it with a new a capella jingle, just in time for their favorite holiday, Hanukkah. Taking a page from Rashida Jones and Jimmy Fallon, the guys sing a pop song parody medley with, you guessed it: the words changed to Hanukkah-y things!

They take on Ke$ha’s “Die Young,” One Direction’s “Live While We’re Young,” and Fun’s “Some Nights”—though they changed the words to ‘Eight Nights’ where Fallon and Jones opted for ‘Some Lights.’
