Once again, Google has given us joy only to follow it with crushing disappointment (see: Google Reader). Porn star James Deen filmed the first-ever Google Glass point-of-view porn shoot, but because of Glass’s prudish rules—“We don’t allow Glassware content that contains nudity, graphic sex acts, or sexually explicit material”—few will get to experience the one-on-one time with Deen.

The film was the brainchild of adult app store MiKandi, whose ‘Tits and Glass’ porn app idea was swiftly shut down by Google. The (NSFW!) trailer, available on YouTube, is described as a spoof—Deen, via Glass, orders a burrito halfway through and discovers that his partner, Andy San Dimas, has overpaid on her black stilettos (and Ron Jeremy videoconferences in at the end)—but the film, it seems, is quite real.

Arikia Millikan, founder of the LadyBits blog, was invited to the shoot, and she brought along her new pair of Glass. Deen wore her pair while costar Andy San Dimas wore another, and they got to filming. After the shoot, Millikan put on the other pair of Glass (Deen was filming from his point of view, and she wanted to see him instead) and watched the raunchy scene unfold. She divulged details of Deen in Medium:

During that car ride of ecstasy, I felt James Deen’s penetrating gaze looking deep into my soul as he hovered over me on that levitating projector screen in my eye. Having the object of so many of my lonely night tumbles through the red light sector of the internet looking into my eye with an expression of orgasmic bliss was so real that I gasped out loud.

Unfortunately for those interested in a night with Deen, you won’t get this intimate moment with him unless you get your hands on that pair of Glass.

Mila Kunis is the recipient of a film award this week—but not one she’ll be writing home about anytime soon. According to the New York Daily News, the Ukrainian star was voted the actress who porn enthusiasts would most like to see in an adult film.

The Sex Tracker survey was conducted, online no doubt, by XCritic.com and Vivid Entertainment (move over, Quinnipiac). Kunis led with 38 percent of the vote, Jennifer Lawrence got 23 percent, Sofia Vergara got 15 percent, and former Disney star Selena Gomez got 10 percent, which just seems wrong.

Mazel tov, Mila. You mother must be so proud.

Jewish porn star James Deen gave GQ the skinny on how he stays, well, so skinny. The universally well-liked adult film actor credits his Semitic genes for keeping him away from fatty foods—you know, because they upset his stomach.

I’ve always been a fan of vegetables and fruits. If I’m going to grab a snack, I’ll have a piece of cheese or an apple. That also benefits my physique and health. In addition to that, I have what is commonly referred to as “Jew Stomach.” It comes with the religion. It’s just where everything goes wrong—you get acid reflux, IBS type of things. Go talk to a group of Jews, and I guarantee almost every single one is going to be like, Oh my stomach. I’ve got an ulcer. Acid reflux! I got Crohn’s. It’s always something. So because of that I have to eat low sodium, because it upsets my stomach.

But also, he reminds us, he gets a good workout at his day job:

My whole point is that because of the on-camera sex, I have this insane style of stunt sex. It actually is very physically strenuous. It’s a good workout. All the positioning and weird things. My doctor said so! Doctor-approved workout.

From the moment Mike Edison wandered into Los Angeles’ Stray Cat Cafe with his entourage, including Counterpoint/ Soft Skull Press publisher Charlie Winton posing as his chauffeuring Samoan lawyer, for the occasion of a very Jewcy interview before a lively reading of his newest Dirty! Dirty! Dirty! across the street at The Last Bookstore, the vibe of the evening was a largely liberated one. And not in the scary Big Lebowski nihilist we-believe-in-nothing sense, but somehow still bound by something sacred, despite the passing around of a vulgar vintage canned Penthouse puzzle and even more filthy discourse. Yes, while he just about manages to use every word soapboxed by Carlin in the index alone, Edison engages in something wholesome and good in his chronicles: preserving freedoms.

Dirty! Dirty! Dirty! reads like the lovechild of Screw Magazine and Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States. In this highly researched yet devourable volume, Mike Edison, founding publisher of High Times and editor-in-chief of Goldstein’s Screw (a cornerstone of uncensored, smart free speech with an actual informed opinion–pro-sex, yes, but also anti-war), provides a historian’s perspective that is that of the insider at the top, but also more importantly that of the active citizen who has done his part in testing, exposing, and now chronicling the limits of freedoms so that they (and we) could continue enjoying them today. Dirty! pops four notorious gentlemen–Hefner, Goldstein, Flynt and Guccione–into a time machine so that they could be reread in their appropriate contexts, rather than through the traditional skewing lens of a moralizing public applying an emotionally-charged value system. And the outcome is not entirely reverent.

Starting with a crash course in the history of US sexuality, Edison hits up the most interesting gamechangers in the perceptions of sex through the country’s short history. It’s a match between the Comstock-humping prudes and the libertarians fought outside the ring (that Edison is familiar with in his dabblings with Kaufmanesque wrestling) and in the centerfolds, courthouses, cities, and suburbs of the country.

The book is riddled with citations of court cases. Another American tradition after porn is the popular punishment of its purveyors and fans, citizens on the prowl for the perfect quench to a primitive thirst sans measurable harm to others, reactionary persecution that is an offense against constitutionally protected individual pursuits of happiness. In addition to the freedom of religion, Dirty! reminds that it is important to defend the part of the first amendment that also protects freedoms from religion so that the peaceful minority can do what it does without the restraints of a system to which it does not subscribe even tacitly. Through this volume, a contextualized discourse that goes beyond good and evil is made possible equally for those who agree and disagree with the achievements of fellow American playboys and hustlers.

Dirty! deeply profiles the drives behind smut kings and what dents they made in the economics, politics, and morality of the country over the decades between the 50s and the information age. Their victories (like Goldstein’s relatively modest win against Pillsbury for cartoons in Screw portraying indecent acts among baked goods with yeast infections) and failures (Guccione’s Gore Vidal-screenwritten, Roger Ebert-walked-out-on Caligula) are scrutinized unapologetically (with his sex-drugs-rock-and-roll-allegiant biases exposed gonzo-style at every peephole) side-by-side with other iconic champions of freedom off the printing press like Jewcy-favorite Lenny Bruce. One of the shiniest gems in the book is the primary document that acts as the final chapter, an interview with Chip Maloney, a smutty relic of a pretty much extinct breed of journalism. A man with “so much shit inside his head, he should clean his ears with Pepto-Bismol,” Maloney’s is a day-in-the-life account from the perspective of Goldstein’s favorite ghostwriter, pairing well with Edison’s first book, his autobiography I Have Fun Wherever I Go.

Man-haters may be silenced in noticing that a prevalent persuasion in the book is Edison’s staunch feminism, manifesting most vividly in his disdainful view of Hugh Hefner, Playboy extraordinaire who helped send the modern material girl to the shallow end of the pool. It is a passion felt most during the Dirty! “reading” in his inspired beat “Hugh Hefner Hates Girls,” (accompanied by the Space Liberation Micro-Arkestra, featuring Danzig veteran Howie Pyro on zero-gravity fuzz guitar, Beatnik No. 9 on bongos, and Edison on electric space piano and theremin). Throughout the progression of Hefner’s trajectory, Edison deduces the king-pimp’s deep-seated anxieties stemming from early miserable romantic relations that reveal some major roots of idealogies supporting the possession of women in modern pop culture.

I don’t care who he had to screw to get here, Edison’s is noble work done not because he hates women, but because he loves people and their freedoms. As was deduced at the Stray Cat, he is the gentleman pornographer. An established “fucking mensch,” these two words describe the state that every self-respecting human being wishes to embody, from the holy rabbi to the common scumbag.

“Fap,” is a term coined by the users of meme generating image board 4Chan as an onomatopoeia for the sound made during masturbation.  For most 4Chan users, dreaming about sex and staring at porn all day long is probably a big part of why they spend their days on 4Chan rather than working a job, but for Lux Alptraum, Editor of the Gawker-public, sex-centric blog Fleshbot, it’s essential.

Fleshbot acts as a listing, or rather a filter, for all things “Fapable.”  As the internet grows, the amount of quality content available grows with it, and the amount of bad content grows as well, exponentially so.  Websites that sift through, find that which is a worth looking at, and present it, are becoming big business. Fleshbot is the foremost website of this type in the realm of sex, and Lux Alptraum is the gatekeeper.

“It’s pretty much like working for any other pro blog.  I wake up check my feed reader, my Google Alerts, edit stuff, schedule stuff, and write.  A lot of it’s just looking for stuff that’s hot.  Some days I’ll have an interview, or a movie to review.  But it’s pretty much like anyone else running a media site, except the topic is a little different.”

Different indeed.  One might imagine the offices of Fleshbot as a brightly colored, furry walled, play house filled with computers that have huge HD screens for optimal porn viewing, and chairs equipped with some kind of sexual stimuli measuring clamps which connect to a big meter  that lights up and starts blinking if someone gets excited as it’s arrow moves toward the word, “Fapable.”  This however, isn’t quite the case.

“You can talk about things being hot, and well done without talking about your own personal, physical reaction.  There are ways of discussing the topic without being gross about it, without over-sharing.   I wouldn’t usually say, oh this was really hot and I totally jacked off to it.”

The website though is a different story.  Your usual look at Fleshbot will include a couple of photosets, video’s or stories, ranging from straight porn, to more erotic art to sexy clips from television shows.  However, almost every entry is accompanied by a short blurb by Alptraum or one of the other contributors about the hotness of the content.

When asked about the biggest stars in the business, Lux mentioned, Kagney Lynn Karter, Faye Regen, Tori Black and Stoya as some of the biggest names in porn right now, but she pointed to Sasha Grey as the porn star that people are most intrigued with citing her ability to cross from mainstream film to porn.

“I think she had the drive to do it, the foresight to realize it was possible, and a really, really good management team.  I think if someone else wants to take that path it’s certainly possible, but it’s not for everyone, you have to have talents beyond the talents of the adult industry.  It’s not easy but it’s possible. “

Many people in the industry have alluded to a blurring of the line between porn and mainstream film, and some think Sasha Grey will be a catalyst to this change, but Lux disagrees.

“There’s a huge stigma against adult film that’s pretty difficult to overcome.  As much as you have Shortbus, or 9Songs, those are generally novelties and don’t really catch on.  I just watched the Human Sexipede, it was funny and really well shot, but of the two hours, an hour and a half of it was sex.  Its focus is inherently different from the focus of a mainstream movie.  You could say with an action movie, that it’s all explosions, but even then, there’s more plot, than action scenes.  I think that adult film is an art but I think the goal is much different than in a mainstream movie.”

According to Lux, The Human Sexipede reflects porn’s biggest trend, one that’s not going away anytime soon.

“The main thing that’s happening in porn right now is parody porn. It’s a trend because it’s something people will actually buy, and you can get press for it because people are shocked that you’d make a Cosby Show porn.  Also people can talk about it in a way that they can’t talk about Shut Up and Blow Me.”

Those who are thinking that Lux Alptraum’s job doesn’t sound any less awesome than it did in the first place, are probably right.  Because of her job, Lux has a vast wealth of knowledge of two of the most interesting industry’s one can hope to be a part of: porn and media.  However, she acknowledges that the porn for all its ostensible glamor, has its problems. “I think piracy has hit porn worse than it’s hit other industries.  I’ve been to The Adult Entertainment Expo twice and the first time I was there everyone was complaining it was the smallest they’d ever seen, the second time it was half that size.  Companies are shutting down, people who used to work four times are week are now working four times a month and they’re working for less.”

Blogging on the other hand, is an industry still finding it bearings, one that a lot of people haven’t quite figured out how to make a living of.  I asked Lux to explain to me how she landed a gig that so many people give a valuable limb for.

I was doing a blog [Boinkology] about sexuality and culture in my own time and was approached to be a contributor at Fleshbot.  I was well-liked there and eventually became editor.  It wasn’t really a targeted thing.  I fell into it and was really good at it.”

Therein lies the lesson of this particular story.  Unlike porn, blogging has yet to find it’s routine.  There’s no set trajectory to follow that will guarantee success in the blogging world.  Oddly, an aspiring blogger might want to look to Sasha Grey, for inspiration.   When Grey was first starting in porn, she used her MySpace page to post a manifesto that she sent to prospective representation, it stated her desire to push the boundaries of sexuality and porn and her willingness to push her own boundaries as a performer, and she quickly became known for her passion for sex and performance.  Sasha Grey, the self proclaimed “Fuck Junkie,” gained attention immediately for her passion more than her ambition.

“If you really love writing it’s something that you can always do.  And in many situations people who did something in their spare time got noticed and started getting paying work.”

For Lux Alptraum it was also passion that lead to her success, a desire that overshadowed the need to be a success.  Answering a question about what she might do next, Lux makes this clear.

“I see myself as more of a sex educator than a writer. That’s what my entire career has been, I’ve been a writer and a sex educator and I just want to continue doing that.  I enjoy writing and can certainly write about other things, but sexuality has always been my passion. I’m just looking for any kind of work that allows me to continue doing the work of promoting positive sexuality and positive attitudes to toward sexuality.”

Of course passion has always been important, but ten years ago, before the internet leveled the playing field, it may not have been a cornerstone for success in the media world.  But now, in a world where content has the ability to trump connections and everybody has a potential pedestal to stand on, passion is just controlling the media 101.

It happened like this: After installing software that identifies where users are logging on, the managers of Ratuv discovered that a large number of their visitors were in Arab countries. They decided that a lack of diplomatic relations didn’t have to equal a lack of sexual relations, so despite not being able to accept money for video downloads from these countries, manager Nir Shahar set to work making the site as hospitable as possible. With the Arabic translations and extra free pics, traffic from these countries rocketed to 100,000 hits per week. The Ratuv team is currently looking into creating and registering a similar site in Europe or America, so that they can legally accept credit card payments from countries prohibited by Israeli law. They’re also eyeballing the possibility of making films in which Arab and Israeli stars come together. So to speak. Talk about a forbidden fetish.

Perhaps there is something to the old adage, “make love, not war,” after all. Someday soon, the ambassadors and diplomats of the world might just have names like Dick Long and Wendy Whoppers.
