We here at Jewcy would like to introduce you to a new feature we call: “Did you know this famous Jewish person has attractive progeny?”

We would like to launch this important series with the tale of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Feminist hero, Judicial Solomon, and fashion icon. And, now, it turns out, the grandmother of your new Jewish crush.

Meet Paul Spera, son of Ginsburg’s daughter Jane, a law professor. Spera is about 30 years old (it seems he graduated Yale in 2008). He was born in Paris, and raised bilingual in New York. These days, he lives in France where he has been working as an actor (he studied both French and theatre in college—swoon!).

Spera’s latest project is elsewhere in Europe: a production of The Merchant of Venice. This special series of performances through early August is actually staged in the Jewish ghetto, commemorating the 500th anniversary of its creation. Spera plays Lorenzo, a non-Jewish man who elopes with Shylock’s daughter, Jessica, who converts to Christianity. His grandmother not only travelled to Italy to see the show, but presided over a mock trial of Shylock accompanying a performance July 27th.

Spera does not describe himself as a practicing Jew (and his father isn’t Jewish), but describes his bonds with the Jewish “religion or ethnicity” as being connected to his sense of family. This sense of family, it would seem, includes calling his grandmother by the Yiddish word, Bubbe!

One more adorable parting factoid: When Paul was about 6, and his grandmother was going through the confirmation process for SCOTUS, he wrote her a book called My Grandma is Very, Very Special, which included a map of the U.S. that he illustrated. Aw!

We look forward to watching Spera’s career advance, and seeing Ginsburg continue to dominate the courts.

In March, Jewcy reported that up-and-coming actor Alden Ehrenreich was one of three finalists for the role of Han Solo in a new Star Wars prequel film. Well, your prayers and notes in the Western Wall have worked, and Deadline reports that he landed the role!

The boychik is currently in negotiations about the deal, and then, away we go!

On the heels of “Star Wars Day” (“May the fourth be with you”), this is fantastic news. While there is precious little information about the film out yet, we do have an image of Solo’s iconic blaster that Ehrenreich will wield:

If you can’t wait till 2018 for what will likely be called Han Solo: A Star Wars Story to see Alden’s next picture, he has a lot in the pipeline already. For example, keep an eye out for The Yellow Birds, a serious war film.

Meanwhile, um, since the film is taking place before Han meets Leia, does he need a romantic costar?

The shortlist has leaked for casting the lead of the new Star Wars spin-off about a young Han Solo, and one of the three young men is Alden Ehrenreich. Even if he doesn’t land the role, you should know (and have an intense crush on) him.

Ehrenreich, 26, was raised in a Reconstructionist Jewish family in Los Angeles, and he has maybe the most Jewish big break since Paul Muni left Yiddish theatre. Young Alden was in a video sketch for a friend’s Bat Mitzvah, and as fate would have it, Steven Spielberg was at the party and liked Ehrenreich’s performance. Soon, an agent, TV appearances, and eventually, film roles.

Ehrenreich’s roles include a lead in the aptly-named Beautiful Creatures, but he’s been in the spotlight lately for his phenomenal turn in the Coen Brothers’ newest film, Hail, Caesar!  Ehrenreich plays cowboy actor Hobie Doyle, known for singing and doing his own stunts. The studio arranges for Hobie to take the lead in a highbrow romantic drama, and he is adorably out of his league.

Final notes to make you melt: When the Hollywood Reporter asked Ehrenreich who his dates would be for the Hail, Caesar! premiere, he responded, “My mom and my nana.” Aw!

Besides, Harrison Ford is of Jewish descent, so it only makes for a young Member of the Tribe to take on the mantle of the scruffiest rogue in the galaxy.

We hope that the force is with young Alden, and that we can see him hanging with a young Chewbacca in 2018.
