So, funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen just bombed another award show. This time he “accidentally” pushed a wheelchair-bound old woman off stage for the glammed-up celebrity audience at the BAFTA Los Angeles Jaguar Britannia Awards on Saturday. Ouch!

The second Baron Cohen strutted on stage, it was clear that the episode would not end well. After being presented with the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy by Salma Hayek, a mysterious woman named Grace Cullington, supposedly the only living actor from Chaplin’s silent films, presents Baron Cohen with one of Chaplin’s canes. After doing a terrible Chaplin impersonation, the cane collapses and Baron Cohen crashes into sweet old Cullington, wheeling her off stage, to the horror and screams of award show guests.

We’ve got just the news to lift you up and over the Hump Day. Sacha Baron Cohen, who’s got a movie coming out in which he’ll play a football hooligan, has another treat for us. Baron Cohen signed a deal with FXX for the Da Ali G Show. We’ll be seeing unaired episodes as well as a new introduction. Oh, you certainly are spoiling us, Sacha. The Hollywood Reporter reports:

“We’re thrilled to be in business with Sacha Baron Cohen,” said FX Networks and FX Productions president of original programming, Nick Grad, who made the announcement with Eric Schrier. “He is an amazing talent, and we look forward to him developing new series for FXP. We’re also excited to introduce Da Ali G Show and Sacha’s characters to a new audience on FXX. And we can’t wait to see how he will incorporate new, original content in the episodes.”

We just hope the new stuff can live up to the classics.

I don’t get sports. I mean, I get playing them. I’m as competitive as the next person, and I enjoy coupling that with random energetic efforts that increase endorphins and involve friends. But I don’t get watching sports. I don’t get how it’s fun to watch other people do something, even something you really like. Would you watch people watch television? Or read a book? Or sing in the shower? It’s sort of like watching porn, but without masturbating and you’re rooting for one of the parties involved. HUH? Consider what you’re watching: a bunch of people chasing a small round object around, and often engaging in conflict over said ball. HUH?? As big of a fan as I am of the cute butt encased in tights, there are less boring ways to get even this.

Here to share my amazement, and do a fantastic job making fun of it, is our favorite Jewish-British comedian, back with a new character. Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film will star him as a Northern football thug, Mirror reports. We are certain that the former model, famous for his roles as Ali G., Borat, and Bruno, will deliver a stellar performance as a crazy football hooligan.

Baron Cohen is no stranger to controversy. When in character as Borat, he freely espoused anti-Semitic views. “People really let down their guard with him because they’re in a room with somebody who seems to have these outrageous opinions,” he told NPR’s Robert Siegel about Borat. “They sometimes feel much more relaxed about letting their own outrageous, politically incorrect, prejudiced opinions come out.” Baron Cohen is a mastermind of this gambit, in no small part due to his ability to enter and stay in character.

Keep it real, Sacha. Can’t wait for the next one.

Sacha Baron Cohen, fresh off his flip flop-clad meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres, has sold a spy spoof to Paramount. Variety reports:

Baron Cohen and Phil Johnston have sold an untitled pitch to Paramount that follows a James Bond-like spy forced to go on the run with his long-lost brother, a moronic soccer hooligan. Studio couldn’t comment on how much the pitch was acquired for, but sources say it was in the high six- to low seven-figure range.

The plot sounds vaguely familiar (I never saw the The Dictator, but didn’t something like that happen?) but this movie might mark a shift away from the more political themes and over-the-top dramatics of his recent films.

The Dictator star Sacha Baron Cohen kept it breezy and casual for his meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres, opting for flip flops, cropped pants, and an unbuttoned shirt. The president went for a more formal look, rocking a black suit, red tie, and dress shoes with high black socks. You know, because he’s president.

Needless to say, Cohen’s four-year-old daughter Olive has had it up to here with her dad embarrassing her in public. (Hi Isla! We loved you in Wedding Crashers!)
