At the end of last week, I watched the epic tale of Fyre Festival unfold with little pity and a whole lot of glee. If you’ve been living under a rock, or are just above the pettiness of laughing at the pain of rich people, here’s what went down:

Ja Rule’s attempt to create an elite, luxury music festival on a Bahamian island did not go so well. Basically, it was a disaster— and, said some people in pretty poor taste, was reminiscent of a disaster-relief camp. (I’d love to hear Sean Spicer’s take on this one.) The campsite was not ready; there were no luxury resort cabanas but instead a few sad tents and bare mattresses, which the guests proceeded to fight over; there was no gourmet food but instead cheese sandwiches. When Instagram models and “influencers” are forced to live like us plebes, hilarity ensues, it turns out. This was prime fodder for the Internet, and Twitter did not disappoint. If I might offer my own take, based on a conglomeration of jokes made by others, it looked like what might happen if Jean-Ralphio and Tom’s Entertainment 720 from Parks and Recreation planned a music festival but ended up with a mashup of The Hunger Games and Lord of the Flies, starring those celebrities with the highest fame-to-talent ratios (I’m looking at you, Kardashian/Jenners).

If the Internet’s response weren’t enough to satisfy your appetite for schadenfreude-based humor, it turns out that stoner comic actor Seth Rogen and vulgar comedy-musical trio The Lonely Island, which as we all know is ⅔ nice Jewish boys, are teaming up to make a comedy “about a music festival that goes HORRIBLY WRONG,” according to Rogen’s Twitter. This comedy dream team was apparently already working on the film before the real-life version happened:

They do seem like the perfect team for such a project: if you combine This Is the End with the music video for I’m On a Boat, it already seems like a pretty good approximation of Fyre Festival.

Now that we have the real thing to compare it to, the public’s standards for what is sure to be a slightly Jew-y, utterly disgusting comedy should be all the higher. It’s said that truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, so Rogen and the Lonely Island have their work cut out for them— let’s hope they’re up to the challenge.

In a case of life imitating art imitating life (or something), the North Korean government has condemned Seth Rogen and James Franco’s forthcoming comedy about the assassination of dictator Kim Jong-un. In “The Interview,” due out in October, the duo play a talk show host and producer who manage to secure a coveted, improbable interview with the North Korean leader—and are then recruited by the CIA to kill him.

The Telegraph reports that a spokesman for the regime, Kim Myong-chol, said the movie “shows the desperation of the US government and American society.” He cautioned President Obama to “be careful in case the US military wants to kill him as well,” and argued that James Bond films “are much more enjoyable” than Rogen-Franco productions. (Clearly, he hasn’t seen their parody of Kanye’s Bound 2.)

Still, Kim Jong-un is apparently planning to watch the movie. And Rogen is delighted by the accidental publicity coup. When crazy dictators condemn satirical take-downs, everybody wins!

This fall, James Franco and Seth Rogen will attempt to assassinate North Korea’s Kim Jong-un in their new comedy-bromance-spy thriller, “The Interview.”

The actors—who first worked together on cult TV hit Freaks & Geeks (R.I.P.), then co-starred in the apocalyptic comedy “This is the End” (where they were inspired to collaborate on a terrific spoof of Kanye West’s Bound 2 video)—play a talk show host and producer who manage to secure a coveted, improbable interview with the dictator, and are recruited by the CIA to kill him. Lizzie Caplan, who is brilliant in “Masters of Sex,” plays one of the CIA officers. The trailer was released yesterday, and we are cautiously optimistic that it will be a hilarious bromantic romp/satire of authoritarianism/parody of American celebrity culture.

Rogen told Indiewire in May: “It’s our attempt to make our version of a big political spy thriller. But starring me and Franco. It’s kind of the formula we always do which is we take a genre we like and add idiots to it. It’s like “This is the End” is a horror movie with idiots in it and “Pineapple Express” is an eighties action movie with idiots in it. So this is our “3 Days of the Condor” with idiots in it. And Kim Jong-un is one of the main characters in the movie, which is something that I’m curious about how people will react to.”

Yesterday, Hollywood funnyman Seth Rogen testified before a U.S. Senate Committee hearing on Alzheimer’s Disease. In a poignant speech punctuated with moments of levity and humor (he started off by berating Senator Tom Harkin for not having seen Knocked Up), the actor described his mother-in-law’s decline into dementia, and urged the U.S. government to dedicate more funds and resources to Alzheimer’s research.

By his own admission, Rogen—a “lazy, self-involved man-child”—is an unlikely spokesperson for the debilitating disease, which is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. For years, he explained, he thought Alzheimer’s “was something really, really old people got… in the form of forgotten keys, wearing mismatched shoes and being asked the same question over and over.” But when he met his wife Lauren Miller, he experienced firsthand the tragic impact Alzheimer’s has on sufferers and their families:

“After forgetting who she and her loved ones were, my mother-in-law [Adele Miller], a teacher for 35 years, then forgot how to speak, feed herself, dress herself and go to the bathroom herself, all by the age of 60. Lauren’s father and a team of caregivers dedicate their lives to letting my mother-in-law be as comfortable as she can be. They would love to do more but can’t, because, as you’ve heard, unlike any of the other top ten causes of death in America, there is no way to prevent, cure, or even slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.”

Rogen condemned the silence and stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s: “It needs to be yelled and screamed to the point that it finally gets the attention and the funding that it deserves and needs.” This fact was sadly evidenced by the low turn-out at the hearing, and the actor took to twitter to express his dismay:

He concluded his speech on a wry, optimistic/slacker note: “I dream of a day when my charity is no longer necessary, and I can go back to being the lazy, self-involved man-child I was meant to be.”

Bieber was arrested on Thursday after police said they saw him speeding down a residential street in Miami Beach in a yellow Lamborghini alongside R&B singer, Khalil Amir Sharieff, speeding in his own red Lambo. Bieber was under the influence of pot, alcohol, prescription drugs AND was driving with an expired license. What a shmuck!

Back in the day, comedies often came with blooper reels. Unscripted mess-ups we could watch, making us feel closer to the actors, like we were in on their jokes. In This Is the End, written and directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, jokes abound, but they leave you wanting one-on-one time with the crew. Even my father, a solitary Israeli, wants to hang with them. “I’d like to spend 24 hours with those guys,” he said, weirdly, in his thick accent.

Get ready for grub-themed man films coming your way via Seth Rogen and Jason Segel. Rogen’s film, co-written, as usual, with Evan Goldberg, is aptly titled Sausage Party:

Directed by Conrad Vernon (“Monsters vs. Aliens”) and Greg Tiernan, ”Sausage Party” is a raunchy animated movie about one sausage’s quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, the hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale.

Segel will star in a film based on a maple syrup heist. Yes, you read that correctly.

Family Guy vet Chris Sheridan is writing the script. Barry Josephson is producing with Gordon and Segel. The comedy with dramatic overtones is inspired by real events reported in the Montreal Gazette by journalist Anne Sutherland. Over $20 million worth of maple syrup was stolen in 2012 from Quebec’s Federation of Maple Syrup Producers and to date, over 20 individuals have been arrested in conjunction with the heist as prosecutors try to make the charges stick.
