Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his partner Tasha McCauley quietly married on December 20 at their home in Los Angeles, The Daily Mail reports. “I have a girlfriend but I tend not to really like to talk about it in public,” the actor said in a 2013 interview with Howard Stern. “The girl that I’m with, she really doesn’t want to be a part of it and you can imagine not wanting to have that kind of scrutiny.”

We’re guessing that’s because she’s busy being a genius, multi-lingual roboticist. McCauley speaks English, Spanish, and Arabic, has an MBA, and is the co-founder and former CEO of Fellow Robots, a company based in Silicon Valley. (“Robotics CEO marries trophy boyfriend Joseph Gordon-Levitt,” tweeted The Cut, offering a deliciously feminist take on the happy, banal piece of celebrity news.)

Here’s McCauley describing how she approaches the unknown, in an interview with Toy & Game Conference: “Optimistically and skeptically! I guess I should clarify that by skeptically, I don’t mean cynically. Both are Greek in origin. Cynical, in early English, denoted faultfinding, while skeptical means “to consider or examine.” I’m skeptical because I love pushing limits in order to understand how things really work. And I’m optimistic because, so far in my life, the unknown has revealed many wonderful possibilities.”

Oh, hello there. Were you looking for another reason to love Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Of course you were! Well, here it is: he’s a feminist. A big, fat, consciousness-raising, hyphenated-surnamed, menschy advocate for gender equality. Swoon!

Gordon-Levitt opened up about his politics in an interview with The Daily Beast today:

I read that you consider yourself a “male feminist,” and you credit your parents who are educators and really taught you about the history of feminism. But nowadays, you have a lot of young stars coming out against being labeled a feminist.

Coming out against the label? Wow. I guess I’m not aware of that. What that means to me is that you don’t let your gender define who you are—you can be who you want to be, whether you’re a man, a woman, a boy, a girl, whatever. However you want to define yourself, you can do that and should be able to do that, and no category ever really describes a person because every person is unique. That, to me, is what “feminism” means. So yes, I’d absolutely call myself a feminist. And if you look at history, women are an oppressed category of people. There’s a long, long history of women suffering abuse, injustice, and not having the same opportunities as men, and I think that’s been very detrimental to the human race as a whole. I’m a believer that if everyone has a fair chance to be what they want to be and do what they want to do, it’s better for everyone. It benefits society as a whole.

The Sin City star also touched on the topic when he appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show earlier this year. He credited his mother with making him and his brother aware of the way women are objectified and judged by double-standards:

“We would always watch Lakers games as a family, but my mom would always point out every time the cheerleaders come on, ‘Okay, so look, here’s the story that gets told: The men get to be the heroic skilled athletes and the women just get to be pretty.’ She didn’t mean any offense to any individual woman who was working as a cheerleader, but she wanted me and my brother to be aware of it because we see these images on TV, in the movies, and on magazines all the time. And if you don’t stop and think about it, it just sort of seeps into your brain and that becomes the way you perceive reality.”

Two of the cutest Jewish superheroes ever, no? Variety reports that Paul Rudd is in early negotiations with Marvel to star as superhero, Ant-Man. Joseph Gordon Levitt was initially rumored to star in the role, but “obvs” Rudd won. Although, don’t cry for Levitt.

The actor and creative mind behind hitRecord, a collaborative production company, will join Neil Gaiman on producing the film adaptation of ’90s comic book series, The Sandman. Levitt tweeted to confirm his excitement:

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m incredibly honored to be working with David Goyer, Warner Bros, and @neilhimself on SANDMAN. #prelude”

Although it’s highly possible, it’s yet to be determined if J-Levitt will act in the film.

Whether or not you’re into superhero movies, having these two in the picture makes it all more likely the theaters will be filled with an even 50:50 ratio, girls to boys.

Guess what, ladies and gentlemen. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is taken. He won’t release his girlfriend’s name (a smart move), but the Don Jon writer, director, and star told Howard Stern that he was very much in a relationship, but that he doesn’t like to talk about it because the unnamed dame is not in show business and his private details can interfere with his acting—it checks out.

He also had some words about monogamy, CNN reports.

“I think that I could partner up with somebody — I don’t know who that somebody is — I could partner up with a woman and commit to, like, ‘OK, we’re going to raise a family, and that’s this project that we’re going to stick to for 20-something years.’ During that time, if (monogamy) was part of it, and it made sense, I could be sexually monogamous,” the actor said.

Good luck on your future endeavors, Gordon-Levitt. They say that child rearing is one tough “project.”

Quirky 500 Days of Summer co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel got together to sing a little song for you. The old friends performed Nancy Wilson’s “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve’ for a Hello Giggles video chat karaoke special, and it might just be the perfectly laid back, ukelele-fueled song to start your night off right.

We can only hope JGL’s New Year’s Resolution is to make a Hanukkah album in 2013.

Now that summer is, for all intents and purposes (if not yet officially), over, all our favorite TV shows are on their way back from their all-too-long summer hiatus. Schmidt will be Schmidt and a slightly more mature Rachel Berry will make her NYADA debut. Eli Gold will continue to spin everything and who knows if Dr. Cristina Yang will be back (well, IMDB does). And while we can’t wait for all that, we interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to take a look at this season’s potential Network Jews. Not the ones that have warmed their way into your heart through hours of watching and rewatching, but the ones who might have that honor if they don’t get prematurely canceled. We’re the first to admit that it’s difficult to judge a character by a four-minute promo, but we won’t let that stop us.

Partners, CBS: Perhaps the Jewiest Network Jew on the horizon is David Krumholtz’s Joe on CBS’s Partners. It doesn’t hurt that Krumholtz (who we love as Joseph Gordon Levitt’s guide in 10 Things I Hate About You, but you may know from Numb3rs) is actually Jewish and grew up in Queens. From what we can glean, Partners is about two guys (one who wants to marry Alyssa Milano when he grows up—that would be Krumholtz—and the other who wants to marry Bette Midler—that would be his stereotypically gay best friend Louis, played by Michael Urie of Ugly Betty fame) and their joint architecture firm. Just kidding! It’s about their relationship drama, or really Krumholtz’s hesitation to propose to his non-Jewish girlfriend Ali (shouldn’t Ted Mosby make a cameo at some point?)

The trailer seems to harp on this proposal (leading to such lines as “that’s what your shmekel is telling you”) and the ensuing catastrophe typical of such shows, but in the end all is right in the world and the only drama that’s left is trying to figure out how Joe and Louis’ relationship will harm Joe and Ali’s relationship (oh, did we mention she’s played by Sophia Bush?).

Jewiness: Hesitation about intermarriage? Check. Words like shmekel? Check.

Watchability: Do you really want to watch Micahel Urie talk about David Krumholtz’s shmekel? Or Sophia Bush in general? We didn’t think so.

The Mindy Project, Fox: This may be more of a supporting role, but we’re hoping that Richard Schiff, you know, that Sorkin Jew, will have a larger place in the hospital of Fox’s The Mindy Project. Granted he only has about two lines in the pilot episode (available now on Hulu). Sample: “You are eight and a half months pregnant. You’re husbands gotta keep his schvantz away from you.”

Jewiness: Even with his limited dialogue, Schiff manages to throw in a schvantz joke. Yep, that’s another Yiddish word for penis. Oh, and he’s a Jewish doctor, enough said.

Watchability: We’ll always give Mindy Kaling a chance (especially now that she’s done with The Office).

Go On, NBC: We’re going to go out on a limb here and guess that Laura Benanti’s Lauren Schneider on NBC’s Matthew Perry-starring show, Go On, is Jewish. After all, Matthew Perry is no stranger to playing a character with Jewish friends. While there are no versions of the Yiddish word for penis to help us out, we have faith that Season 1 won’t disappoint.

Perry plays a sportscaster who is dealing with the death of his wife and is forced by his boss (or so it seems from the pilot that NBC “sneak-previewed” after the Summer Olympics—which and is now available on Hulu) to attend mandatory counseling. For reasons that aren’t exactly clear, instead of paying for therapy (he appears to be relatively well-off), he decides to attend day-time sessions of group therapy at what can only be described as a community rec-center (during the same time slot there seem to be a group of sci-fi/war re-enacters). Enter Schneider, the groups not-so-put-together leader (who we imagine will play some sort of love interest will-they-or-won’t-the couple with Perry’s character) who has no formal training (aside from Weight Watchers) to guide her. Hilarity will (we hope) ensue.

Jewiness: Unclear, we’re guessing (hoping!) that Schneider is Jewish, but so far there’s no proof.

Watchability: Channeling a bit of Chandler’s sarcasm and throw in the hodge-podge friendships of Community, we’re definitely giving this show a chance.
