Israeli hip hop–like the thriving literature scene of the country–has for gone largely undocumented by American media over the last decade. That’s not saying individual artists haven’t gotten notice, but as a whole, the countries contributions to the art form hasn’t gotten the notice it truly deserves. Soulico [Full Disclosure: they are signed to our parent company, JDub Records] are one of the brightest examples of Israeli hip hop breaking through to the masses in America. Their 2009 album, Exotic on the Speaker, read like a who’s who of hip hop notables as guest stars, from M.I.A. buddy, Rye Rye, to Del, and Ghostface Killah, the album was not only a breakthrough for Israeli hip hop, but one of the most notable world hip hop releases of the last decade. Recently, members of the Soulico crew have been busying themselves with production work (DJ Sabbo’s remix of Y-Love’s "Move on" is a banger), but have been concentrating on their ten years of existence. On their Youtube page, the crew has been posting videos leading up to their anniversary party, and we figure since nobody knows how to party like an Israeli hip hop crew, the best we could do to join in was to post along some of the highlights.
