You know the story by now: the American and French presidents are sitting together. The French president calls the Israeli president (who isn’t present in the conversation) a “liar,” and the American president reportedly replies with “I have to deal with him every day.”
And that’s it. A guy whose job it really is to “deal” with other world leaders on a daily basis just summed up what he does in plain English.
But of course there are different reactions to President Obama’s handling of the situation: one half really wished that Obama would have stood up, slapped Nicolas Sarkozy in the face, and said, “How dare you talk about my Israeli friend that way!” Then there is the other half who would rather talk about other things like creating jobs, stopping wars, stopping terrorists from blowing us up, and finding a way to stop Aaron Rodgers from completely dominating on every single drive.
At the JTA, Dan Klein rounds up both sides of the discussion.
