Lo and behold! Spider-Man is a Jew. Well, at least that’s what Spidey-star Andrew Garfield said.
Although never said explicitly in any of the films, the 30-year-old British actor knows a Jew when he sees one (he is one!). Ah, the neuroses! The self-doubt! The over-thinking. Put those three in a blender and there you have the concoction of a stereotypical Jew.
Garfield told The New York Post, ““Peter Parker is not a simple dude,” Garfield told Time Out. “He ums and ahs about his future because he’s neurotic. He’s Jewish. It’s a defining feature.”
Garfield isn’t saying that you have to be a Jew to be a neurotic, over-thinker, is he? Well, not exactly. But kinda. At least Garfield defeats the stereotype of being a nebbishy, clumsy Jew; he’s buff! Well, we’d hope so. He’s a superhero!
“I hope Jewish people won’t mind the cliché because my father’s Jewish. I have that in me for sure,” Garfield said.
Spidey does Passover! We like it. Look out for Garfield in the The Amazing Spider-Man 2, coming to a theater near you on May 2nd.
