We have some exciting news for everyone who’s a bit behind on their tennis television. On Monday, Dudi Sela, the top Israeli tennis player, advanced to the second round of the men’s U.S. Open in New York. He played a five-set match against Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov, Haaretz reports.
Currently ranked 77th in the world, Sela took the hour-long first set on a tie-break, despite not playing any winners throughout the entire set. Breaking his opponent’s serve twice in the 30-minute second set, Sela cruised to a 2-0 lead and looked well on his way to making the second round for the fourth time in his career.
Sela has never made it passed the second round at the U.S. Open before. He’ll be playing Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic next. Good luck, Sela. We’re all rooting for you.
