In Tablet Magazine, Liel Leibovitz reports that sales of Moscato, a kosher white wine, have remained absurdly strong after unlikely endorsements by hip hop stars Drake, Kanye, and Waka Flocka Flame.
Moscato, Leibovitz argues, “has replaced Cristal champagne as the conspicuous consumption beverage du jour.”
As David Levy of Royal Wine Corporation, which imports and distributes kosher wine, told Jewcy last fall:
“Bartenura Moscato has been around for about 20 years now, we’re the original premium moscato in a blue bottle. While we introduced the product as a kosher wine, at the end of the day, we’re glad people outside of the kosher market have discovered this fantastic wine.”
They are projected to sell a record 400,000 cases this year—and we can only hope Drake’s next song rhymes ‘Moscato’ with ‘blue bottle.’ Until then, here’s a recipe for the Bartini cocktail, which, spoiler alert, is just Moscato and vodka.
