Daniel Greene (b. 1934) is a leading pastelist and oil painter, known for his portrait commissions which hang in the White House, the Smithsonian and the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as his paintings in series such as the New York subway series, the auction series and the series of drinking glasses.

Greene dropped out of high school in Cincinnati and traveled to Miami where he stayed with relatives and made money selling pastel portraits on the street in order to save up for art school. He went on to study at the Art Academy of Cincinnati 1944-46, and the Art Students League of New York 1953-55. He has worked as an instructor of painting at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League of New York. He’s currently represented by New York’s Gallery Henoch. His multi-award winning portait work has bought him many top political and corporate figures as clients, and this has been a focus for much of his career. He has also written the book Pastel, which serves as a manual for many artists working in this medium.

Greene lives and works in New York, but travels extensively presenting workshops. His work can be found, amongst others at the Smithsonian; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; the Cincimatti Museum of Fine Arts, Cincinnati, Ohio; Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus Georgia and the House of Representatives.
