In case any of you Nice Jewish Boys out there were thinking about proposing to Anna Kournikova, don’t bother. For one, she’s reportedly already engaged to Enrique Iglesias. For another, she is very adamantly not a Jew. Via the Washington Times:
When freelance photographer Carrie Devorah congratulated Miss Kournikova with the common Hebrew/Yiddish expression "mazel tov," the Russian beauty asked what that meant. When the photog explained it means congratulations and good luck, Miss K, according to Ms. Devorah, snapped, "I am not Jewish – can’t you see my cross?"
I can completely understand where Anna is coming from about not wanting to be accused of being a Jew. After all, I’m sure she also hates when people mistake her for being a tennis player.
