The Big Jewcy: Judy Miller Silverman, Publicist

Aside from being some of the most influential bands in music today, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Yeasyaer and Deerhunter all have one thing else in common: Judy Miller Silverman of Motor Mouth Media.  The publicist extraordinaire is the person making sure you hear about the most important musicians in the world, and she’s having a blast doing it. Honestly, Do you wake up every morning and say "I’ve got the sweetest job ever"? It’s pretty cliche, but i am incredibly blessed to work with so many amazing artists –  but at the end of the day there are still things that make it a job. I still have to constantly haraung people to listen to records and I still have to make things happen even at the bleakest times when nobody seems to care. After so many years there is some tedium about talking to the same set of people about the same things all the time. On the flip side,  the thing that makes it really sweet  is that I still have passion for young and emerging artists and I get excited to work with new bands and watch my long term clients develop and prosper. I love seeing bands go from 50 person shows to 1,000 person shows and upward, there is still a thrill in getting to nuture the profile of artists on the upswing. Was there a moment when you realized "I want to be a publicist!"? Like many pr people, I started out wanting to be a rock critic. I did my fair share of writing back in college for music publications. By the age of 17/18 I wrote for about 5 or 6 publications but def did not make enough money and enjoy it enough to see the future in it for myself. I was a PR major from the get go and I always thought it was the perfect combination of things for me – how to talk, listen to music, write and make a living. viola! here I am (20 years later). If you could start the Judy Miller Silverman Band, what artists from your roster would you take? That’s a tough one, can’t answer it. It’s like asking a mom to pick her favorite child.

When possible, as you grow expertise, does one mind updating your site with an increase of details? It is extremely useful for me. Big thumb up with this short article!
