The Big Jewcy: Mookie Singerman, Musician

I’ve written about Mookie Singerman before — not just because he has such a palatable name, but because he does such wonderful things.  Here’s his take:

"Mookie Singerman is a gorgeous half-breed jew. He runs Lovepump United, sings in Genghis Tron, and works for label/management company We Are Free."

In lieu of doing a traditional Q&A, Mookie agreed to give me his "Top 10 Jams Of All Time As Of This Very Moment."

"Shut it Down" by Drake (feat. The-Dream) — Even though this song has been out there for a solid 2 months or so, I still play it at least 3 times a day. It balances extreme NSFWness with cutesy lines like "Ice cream conversations–they all want the scoop!" Adorable. It’s also extraordinarily sexy. No exaggeration, if you’re a dude you should make sure you have a textbook or pillow nearby to cover your inevitable boner.

"Trancegender (Genderless)" by Pictureplane — This is a new jam by my boy Pictureplane (whom I manage and put out on Lovepump). He somehow deconstructed the Deborah Cox song "Just Be Good To Me" and turned it into a weird dance-banger about shemales and he-girls. Amazing. Should be out on his next record early 2011.

"End of the Line" by The Traveling Wilburys — Whenever I’m having a bad day, I read Roy Orbison’s wikipedia page and remember that things could get a whole lot worse.

"Trust Me" by Lower Dens — Jana Hunter’s new band. It’s on their new record Twin Hand Movement and it will undoubtedly be one of the best of 2010. Beautiful beautiful stuff.

"I Believe In You" by Neil Young –I saw him play in CT a couple weeks ago and damn near cried when he played this on the piano. One of his best and certainly in my top 5 songs always & forever.

"I Love Livin’ In The City" by Fear — Singer Lee Ving is a conservative, misogynist, homophobe–but considering I’m not an annoying liberal arts school brat anymore, I can look past him and appreciate this truly amazing conservative, misogynist, homophobic song for the hot summer jam that it is.

"USA Boys" by HEALTH — another boner-inducing song that I’m very proud to be putting out on Lovepump. Recorded at Trent Reznor’s studio and mixed by Alan Moulder. Sounds as legendary as the dudes who worked on it. It’s out this month on their new remix record DISCO2 and it. is. SEXY.

"Posession" by Sarah McLachlan — I’m SO excited about Lilith Fair 2.0!

The entire Axe to Fall record by Converge — My band was lucky enough to accompany these dudes on their Australian tour in March. An amazing time, an amazing record, and 4 amazing bros. They define 21st century hardcore. Period.

"You Carry The Deed (Hidden Cat Remix)" by Deradoorian — Here I go hyping my own shit again. Deradoorian is Angel from The Dirty Projectors and Lovepump put out her Mind Raft EP in 2009. Hidden Cat turned a somber acoustic song into a Crystal Waters-esque diva anthem. It’s everything a remix should be.
