The Ghosts of Beirut’s Jewish Past

A new book is out in Lebanon, written by BBC journalist Nada Abdelsamad: "Wadi Abu Jamil: Stories about the Jews of Beirut", and it’s profiled by the LA Times today.

Since the book has yet to be translated into English (according to the piece in The Times, it’s in the works), it’s a little hard for me to accurately comment on it, but from what the Times writer reports (as well as the corresponding Jacket Copy article), Abdelsamad has done a fine job of telling the stories of another city that witnessed a thriving Jewish population dwindle down to somewhere between a reported 1,000 and 50 Jewish citizens.  While the relationship between Israel and Lebanon has been marked by violence for decades, the book has been alarmingly well-received, even being reportedly "sold out" in certain bookstores.

Although, there is an entertainment aspect to keep children engaged, each and every game is normally designed to focus on a specific group of skills or curriculum, such as math concepts or research.
