Inheritance: A Film Chronicling Two Women and A Dark Legacy

The documentary Inheritance, directed by Oscar-winner James Moll, is a raw and heartbreaking glimpse into two intertwined narratives that weave a painful tale of hate, fear and resilience. The film documents the lives of two women, Monika Hertwig and Helen Jonas, who are both grappling with the dark legacy of the Holocaust and one man whose devastating hatred affected them both. Amon Goeth, who was the commanding officer of the Plazow Nazi concentration camp and was famously depicted in 1993’s Schindler’s List, was Hertwig’s father, who didn’t learn of his deadly past until the age of 11, while Jonas was kept as a maid by Goeth at Plazow and witnessed his fanatical anti-Semitism and brutality first hand. Inheritance chronicles the lives of these women who were both permanently affected by Goeth and their emotional first meeting at the grounds of the former concentration camp.
