- Vermont’s senate judiciary committee has approved a same-sex marriage bill. If it passes in the full senate next week, Vermont will become the third state to legalize same-sex marriage.
- Australian beaches were faced with an influx of visitors of the whale variety when 80 long-finned pilot whales washed up on the Hamelin Bay beach in West Australia. Scientists find it very unusual that a few bottlenose dolphins were also beached in the whales’ midst. Those that survived will be transported to deeper water today.
- David Letterman has finally tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko. This comes only days after Julia Roberts teased him on air about not having married his "baby mama" yet. The couple has a five-year-old son, Harry.
- The Northern Ireland teen who killed a police officer with an assault rifle and 26 rounds of ammunition in an IRA attack has begun his trial today.
- Amnesty International reported that the number of executions worldwide has doubled since 2007, with China leading the way in executing its citizens. In all, 59 countries still have the death penalty on the books.
