Jewcy Zeitgeist: Booker Prize Announced, More Idol Drama, and Government Official Eats Raw Seal Heart

Here are today’s top stories in no particular order:

  • The winner of the 2009 Man Booker International Prize has been announced. Canadian author Alice Munro has taken the biannual prize and it will be awarded in Dublin in June.
  • Hometown news has gone national as the FBI is on a manhunt for the abductors of a Pennsylvania mother and her 9-year-old daughter, who were rear-ended and then kidnapped in Bucks County.
  • The Governor General of Canada ate a raw seal heart on television, calling it delicious as she wiped blood off her fingers. Naturally, some degree of awe, disgust, and protest has followed.
  • American Idol may have ended for the season, but the drama has not. New reports have surfaced that AT&T swayed the results by providing free texting services to those at a Kris Allen support party in Arkansas.
  • Here comes the Judge: President Obama has selected Justice Sonia Sotomayor as his top pick for appointment to the Supreme Court, causing controversy among conservatives.
  • Buffy fans are up in arms after the announcement that a new Buffy movie would be released–without the original creator’s input or appearances from any of the original cast members.
