Jewcy Zeitgeist: Hillary Takes Japan, Salma Takes a Husband, and Microsoft Takes Drastic Measures

This President’s Day, here are the top stories, in no particular order:

  • Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in Japan for the first leg of an Asian tour. She said in a speech that the United States and Asia need to work together to address the global financial crisis and climate change.
  • Actress Salma Hayek has married French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, the father of her year-old daughter Valentina. The couple was reportedly engaged at the time of Valentina’s birth, separated, and got back together. Pinault’s father, Francois, founded the luxury conglomerate PPR.
  • President Barack Obama has announced that he will form a task force to oversee the automobile industry, thus scrapping his earlier plan of appointing a "car czar."
  • California’s Orange and Los Angeles counties are under a flash flood watch due to heavy rainfall over President’s Day weekend.
  • Microsoft is offering a bounty of $250,000 for the person responsible for creating the Conficker worm. The ‘worm,’ "a self-replicating program that takes advantage of networks or computers that have not kept up to date with Windows security patches," has been infecting computers since October 2008.
  • Golfer Dustin Johnson won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am without having to pick up a single club over the last two days. The final round of the tournament was cancelled due to weather.
  • For the first time since his arrest on alleged abuse charges against his girlfriend Rihanna, singer Chris Brown has spoken out. In a press release, he said "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person."
