  • New York’s new Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, was sworn in yesterday and has hit the ground running.
  • Egypt has expressed disapproval of Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah, accusing them of working together to spark conflict in Gaza and the rest of the Middle East.
  • A Florida couple has paid $155,000 for a new clone of their late dog, Lancelot, appropriately named Lancelot Encore.
  • Pope Benedict XVI, in an effort to dispel outrage over his reinstatement of a bishop who denies the Holocaust, issued a public statement yesterday declaring solidarity with the Jewish people and acknowledging the horrors of the Holocaust. This comes as the Chief Rabbinate of Israel breaks all ties with the Vatican.
  • A Los Angeles man shot his five children and wife, and then himself, in a desperate murder-suicide over the couple’s lost jobs.
  • Author John Updike passed away yesterday afternoon after a battle with lung cancer. He was 76.
