Jewcy Zeitgeist: Pope Won’t Apologize, Miss CA Keeps Crown, and College Craziness

Here are today’s top stories in no particular order:

• Donald Trump has ruled that Miss California, Carrie Prejean, gets to keep her crown, despite continuing controversy about the semi-nude photos of her that turned up and her comments against gay marriage. [Editor’s note: Carrie Prejean, despite being referred to as Miss California in the press, is technically Miss California USA. That means she competes in the Trump-owned Miss USA pageant instead of the Miss America pageant.]

• The Pope is in Israel and under fire after making a speech at Yad Vashem that paid tribute to those 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust but stopped short of apologizing on the behalf of the Catholic Church.

• A professor at the University of Georgia dug his own grave, covered it with brush, and then shot himself in the head. This comes nearly three weeks after he went missing after killing three people and wounding two others.

• Japan and Russia have signed a cooperation agreement over nuclear energy, attempting to settle the territorial disputes.

• College prank stupidity reaches a new high after student athletes at Central Connecticut State University reportedly tied the doors of several dorm room doors shut and then set off the fire alarm, forcing the students to evacuate through a very tight space. The police aren’t laughing and the students have been charged with mischief and reckless endangerment, among other things.

• Protests continue at Notre Dame as students have decided to skip their college commencement in favor of a prayer demonstration, taking a stand against President Obama’s appearance, as it is said to undermine the Catholic values of the university.
