Jewcy Zeitgeist: Swine Flu Vaccine, Air France Survivor Dies in Car Crash, and Tobacco Ban

Here are today’s top stories in no particular order:

  • David Letterman is under fire after making a joke about Sarah Palin’s daughter that she is calling "perverted." He said, "During the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez." Palin’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow, was the one in attendance at the game. Letterman has since apologized, sort of. [Editor’s note: for those of you who just can’t get enough Letterman, check out this awesome clip of Kathy Griffin’s first appearance on the show since the lift of her 12-year ban. You’re welcome.]
  • Tobacco regulation is about to hit a whole new level, with the Senate passing bans on all cigarettes marketed as light, mild, or low tar taking effect within the next year.
  • In a truly bizarre, Final Destination-esque turn of events, a woman who missed the doomed Air France flight has been killed in a car crash. Her husband, who also avoided death on the flight, suffered serious injuries.
  • After being put off for months, tomorrow (finally) marks the transition to Digital Television (DTV). Research indicates that nearly 2.8 million Americans will still be unprepared for the switch. Nothing like a little procrastination.
