Here are today’s top stories in no particular order:

  • Beauty queen goes green: Miss Vermont plans to don an environmentally-friendly ensemble to the Miss America Pageant later this month. The dress is made of recyclable materials and will make great fodder for her inspirational "save the world" speech during the Q&A portion of the pageant. Go Miss Vermont!
  • Israel briefly stopped the airstrikes on Gaza this morning to allow humanitarian aid to the wounded, and promises to suspend the attacks for three hours every couple of days.
  • Author Neale Donald Walsch has been caught in a plagiarism scandal. Walsch, who submitted a post about a Christmas pageant to his blog on the spiritual site beliefnet.com, has been accused of stealing the piece from its original writer, Candy Chand. Beliefnet has removed Walsch from their stable of contributors.
  • According to the National Center for Health Statistics teen birth rates are increasing in 26 states, but most significantly in the South. It’s believed that the rise in teen birth rates is a result of our increasingly sexualized culture as well as abstinence-only sex education that deemphasize the importance of birth control and most likely teen pregnancy role models Bristol Palin and Jamie Lynn Spears.
  • An anti-clotting medication made from genetically modified goats has gotten a positive evaluation from the FDA, which could possible spark a new trend of non-chemical drugs on the market.
