  • In what is believed to be the first women’s rights protest in Afghan history, women demonstrated against the "marital rape law" in Kabul. Many of them were spat on and stoned.
  • New York Governor David A. Patterson has plans to introduce legislation tomorrow that will legalize gay marriage in New York state. If it passes, New York will become the fifth state to ratify same-sex unions.
  • The central bank of Fiji has devalued its currency 20 percent after declaring a state of emergency and reappointing a military government for the next five years.
  • In a love triangle gone very awry, an 18-year-old Florida girl was stabbed to death by another teen girl in a fight over a boyfriend. Nineteen-year-old Rachel Wade has been arrested and charged with second-degree homicide.
  • Bolivian president Evo Morales passed a new electoral law allowing him to run for a second term by going on a five-day hunger strike that forced the congress to approve his bill.
  • United Airlines has taken drastic measures to prevent overweight people from taking up too much room on crowded flights. A new regulation requires those who cannot comfortably fit in their seat with the armrests down or fasten their seatbelt to purchase an extra seat
