The American pastime and official sport of the Jews is back! The 2010 Major League Baseball season is underway, and it has all the makings of a classic. You’ve read from all the experts at ESPN, checked out the Sports Illustrated picks, read the fanboy blogs, but have you heard the 2010 MLB picks from the Jews in the rock n’ roll community? Well, Jewcy has decided to change all that, and we present to you the first installment of Jewish Punk Rock Baseball. Today, Josh Intrator of the Brooklyn noise punk band, Sleepies, tells us his thoughts on the upcoming season, the baseball cards he used to collect, and his love of The Mick.
Who’s your favorite team? Yankees! I understand why everybody else hates them but as a born New Yorker, I inherited the Yankees from my parents. It certainly didn’t hurt that I got to watch the 1995-2000 run during my formative baseball years Favorite player of all-time? Mickey Mantle. He’s another player I inherited from my father. He used to tell me that it seemed like everytime he went to a game, Mantle would do something amazing. I can only imagine how much more he would have broken if he hadn’t been such a terrible drunk. What is your favorite ballpark food? I would say the classic ballpark hot dog but since becoming a vegetarian I’ll have to go with the garlic fries at AT&T Park in San Francisco. I just love that stadium in general. Who are your picks to face off in the World Series, and who will be the winner? It’s a boring pick but I think it will be Yankees-Phillies again. I suppose my choice of the Yankees is a biased one, but whatever. Go Yankees! I didn’t see any National League team get much better in the off season and after having seen Roy Halladay in the AL East for years, I think he’ll be scary good against weaker NL line ups. If Cole Hamels can return to 2008 form, they won’t miss Cliff Lee too much. Yanks take it in 6. If (the major league team of your choice) were to approach you to play one of The Sleepies songs over the loudspeaker, which song would you want them to use? Probably "In Heat." It’s one of my favorites as ours and I suppose I could imagine it "pumping up the crowd" or whatever. Did you collect baseball cards as a kid? If so, what is your favorite card you’ve owned? Did I ever! I have a few favorite cards. I have one card Topps put out in 1963 that commemerates Mickey Mantle’s 565 foot home run. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it doesn’t have a picture of him, only one of Yankee Stadium. But as my favorite player, i’m glad I at least sort of have one of his cards. My other favorite would have to be a Topps 1958 Jim Bunning because it’s really cool looking. It’s too bad he became such a bastard, conservative-prick Senator. How come the only good films Kevin Costner have ever made are the ones involving baseball? Say what you will about Kevin Costner, the dude clearly knows his baseball. That’s the only reasonable explaination I can think of for his baseball movies not sucking like the rest of his work ("Waterworld" exlcuded). Compare his pitching motion in "For Love of the Game" to Tim Robbin’s in "Bull Durham." It drives me crazy when I watch a baseball movie and can’t believe that an actor would actually play well (i.e. Dennis Quaid in "The Rookie"). And as if you needed any proof that I’m actually a baseball nerd, I just outed myself as having seen both "For the Love of the Game" and "The Rookie."
I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is excellent blog. A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
