If you Google "library budget cut," it’s nothing but grim news. So you would think if Gabriel Levinson wanted to figure out new ways to get books into the hands of the citizens of Chicago, the local government would be more than welcoming to the idea.
That isn’t the case. According to The Huffington Post, Mr. Levinson was recently approached by a Chicago Park District official and asked to leave. Saying he needed a permit to hand out free books. The future of the Book Bike is now in question.
Obviously this is a very serious threat to the city of Chicago: a guy riding around on a bike handing out free books. Seems like a high priority and I’m glad that the city would rather bother with this, than deal with it’s gun problem.
