Jewcy LA Insider: Five Songs For Festival de Luces This Sunday

This Sunday, Jewcy co-presents Festival de Luces at El Cid in Los Angeles. We are pretty sure that between the free margaritas and the early start and finish times (3 PM to 6 PM), it will probably be the greatest party ever thrown. Just to make sure, we’re flying in a super hyped world class DJ (who we swear is not our Editor-in-Chief), L.L. Cool Beans, to make all the drunk party-goers shake their rumps for 3 hours.

Here are a few things currently being played on his iPhone and turntable.

1.  I get a lot of music from Awesome Tapes From Africa.  I feel like the name of the site speaks for itself.  It’s your one stop source for pretty much all music from the African continent you would otherwise never hear.

2. Fol Chen – “C/U (Star Slinger Remix)”

Fol Chen do this weird take on dance pop and they’re friends with Sufjan Stevens.  Hopefully you agree that’s a winning combination.

3.  Deerhunter – “Helicopter”

I want somebody to do a really sweet remix of this song that the band did on Conan last night.  Speed it up a little, but keep the shoegaze intact.

4. Braids – “Lemonade (Green Go Remix)”

Everybody is talking about Braids, but it took this remix for me to get into them.  Now I’m hooked.

5.  Dum Dum Girls covering Strawberry Switchblade

I didn’t love the Dum Dum Girls album as much as everybody else seemed to, but covering this 80s bubblegum goth tune may have changed my opinion.
