An Opinion On Israel Maybe Being “Over”

How does a country become “over,” and what does that mean?  According to The Daily Beast Newsweek since Israel is “no longer the liberal, democratic, egalitarian society it once was,” it is becoming, well, over. Meanwhile when governments collapse all around the Jewish homeland and civil wars erupt in neighboring countries, the American media calls that revolution, and more often than not, celebrates the chaos (whether or not they yield positive long-term results is yet to be seen).  To use a term like “over” in regards to Israel’s problems as a country seems to fit somewhere in between a fanatical dictator saying the country should be wiped off the map (that would render the country as over), and Boogie Down Productions claiming that hip hop in Queens was finished when they proclaimed “The Bridge is Over.”

I’m all for holding a country responsible for any actions their government or people may have caused their homeland, but using terminology that asks if a country is going to close up shop and go away seems a little unsettling.
