Jon Papernick kicks off what will be a regular feature on the Shvitz: a sort of pimp-my-book exercise in blogging for free publicity. Jon's praised new novel, Who by Fire, Who by Blood? is due out in the fall, though his idea is to advance-sell 1,001 copies before publication date. So far one indy bookstore outside Boston has pre-sold more Papernick than Rowling. Take that, gentile-pagan wizardry!
Jon will be provided a daily nibble of photographs, news links and "awards." What are awards? you ask because the boss is late this morning, working off his Memorial Day hangover. Much like Andrew Sullivan's unintentionall dubious trophies, Jewcy will begin dispensing the following:
Abe Foxman Ethnocentrism Award Robert Reich Little-Man-Big-Ideas Award Lenny Bruce Bad-Ass Jew Award Lionel Trilling Gentleman-Liberal Award Peter Singer Ethical Humanism Award Leon Trotsky Man of Action Award Max Schachtman Lefty Charisma Award Spinoza Rationalism Award Martha Nussbaum Feminism Award Andy Borowitz Unfunny Jew Award Israel Shahak Self-Criticism Award Gilad Atzmon Self-Hatred Award Jennifer Connelly Pro-Intermarriage Award Beastie Boys Ethnic Diversity Award
Also, since he can't help himself in the comments threads of most any Jewcy feature, Josh Strawn has been invited to blog whatever and whenever he feels like. Josh is a personal friend with whom I do margarita binges every Thursday, so please be nice.
