In the final e-mail of this week’s Big Question, Stephen Suleyman Schwartz has a go at Ashkenazi ignorance and says it’s time to turn back to our Sephardic heritage.
I remember with great distaste an editor of a leading Jewish journal telling me his paper had published enough on Sephardim and would not be interested in anything more about them. Another editor at the same paper told me the Sephardim daven without knowing the meaning of the words.
In my defense, I was upset at the time because I'd just learned that Sephardim eat rice during Passover. That's cheating. And Tahl was disoriented because he'd just seen a 12 year-old in a big, crazy kippah reading the Zohar.
Stephen also dabbles in a little alternative history: if the British and French empires had kept their grubby colonial mitts off the Middle East, would Israelis and Arabs today be exchanging effusive greetings and those awful, sugary pastries, rather than katyushas and cluster bombs?
Well I truly enjoyed reading it. This subject offered by you is very helpful for accurate planning.
When I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new surveys are added- checkbox and after this each time a comment is added I am four emails sticking with the same comment. Could there be that is it is possible to eliminate me from that service? Thanks!
There couple of fascinating points at some point in this post but I don’t determine if I see these people center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I investigate it further. Excellent write-up , thanks and then we want much more! Added onto FeedBurner in addition
