Julie Pascchkis grew up in Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. As a child she was encouraged to read, draw, and make things. She later taught art to grade school children for about 8 years and during that time developed her own approach to art and illustration. In 1991 she stopped teaching and committed herself to life as a full time artist. Her art includes painting, illustration, and illustrating children’s books; all of which is connected by a common thread of a narrative appraoch. Paschkis states, “All of it is connected in that it is all storytelling … The commercial and editorial illustration lead me into worlds that I didn’t know about before … the paintings are open-ended stories.”
