Rising of the Sunset

Hilla Lulu Lin is widely considered one of the most interesting and promising contemporary Israeli artists. Much of her work focuses on the human body, often featuring herself as both subject and object in her video, photography, installation, poetry and performance pieces. Her work is a highly personal exploration of how the body can be manipulated, and the relationships that emerge when brought into contact with other objects. Often Lin’s work conveys strong physical-erotic sensations reflecting loneliness and anxiety. Contradictory feelings of disturbing discontent are evoked: aversion and attraction, seduction and repulsion. Her unique work is characterized by a contemporary, subversive, post-feminist tone.

Born in Israel in 1964, Hilla Lulu Lin graduated from Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in 1989. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Israel as well as in the United States, Europe and Japan.
