Yom Kippur vs. Lebowski Fest

Sure, sure, Yom Kippur's on Monday. Gotta keep our game face on. Gotta atone.

But just as Catholics prepare for Lent by reveling on Fat Tuesday, perhaps this year we New Jews can prepare ourselves for the self-flagellation of Yom Kippur by celebrating the festival of the Dude. That's right: This weekend geeks across the country will be celebrating the fifth annual Lebowski Fest. It's been eight years since The Big Lebowski rocked American cinema, and the legend and cult of the Dude grow ever stronger.

Over at The Guardian, where over-refined Islington Chardonnay-sippers normally sing their praises to the likes of Zadie Smith or Harold Pinter, Toby Manhire declares that the Big Lebowski is "…a thing of perfection. Perfection, I tell you."
