The JTA tipped me off to the new program being run by The National Council of Young Israel, which brings Orthodox singles to NYC’s Museum of Jewish Heritage in the hopes that the many exhibits dedicated to remembering the Holocaust might start a (sexy) fire in the hearts of participants. Now, I know this sounds a bit unconventional, but let’s discuss the pros and cons: Pros – This program is aimed at attracting Orthodox singles, which means they were probably taught as kids that the Holocaust was punishment for the German Jewish population’s assimilation into secular German culture. The guilt produced by the Shoah imagery might just be enough to get these lonely Yids paired off. Cons – The set up is risky. I don’t know about you, but the only thing less sexy than a Holocaust museum is probably being in the actual Holocaust. Overall, it looks like this ambitious attempt at making more fine Shidduchim is probably bunk. Still, if you happen to be one of the lucky singles participating, please reach out and let me know how it goes!
