The Sunday Mazel: How do We top Kate Fridkis and Simon Berring?

Week after week we bring you our favorite wedding announcement from the Sunday New York Times.  We think with all of the weird and wacky stuff going on in the world, the least we can do it report on something as wonderful as two people who found each other, and loved each other enough to say, “hey, you know what?  I want to be with you for the rest of my life.”

It’s never a chore to do the Sunday Mazel.  But after reading about Kate Fridiks and Simon Berring, we have to admit as experts of reporting on Jewish wedding announcements, that this one might be hard to top.

Forget the fact that she’s a cantor, and that the couple met on a dating site (SneezeJDATESneeze).  Forget he’s an investment analyst; the child of a doctor and a law professor.  The kicker here is something that you’d expect Nora Ephron to write.  From the article:

“Among the flurry of e-mails — five times a day — in the following days, Ms. Fridkis sent him an article about a place in Salt Lake City known for pastrami burgers. The next thing she knew, he had booked two plane tickets for Salt Lake City that weekend.

“We got off the plane, we rented a car and went straight to the pastrami burger in Salt Lake City,” she said.”

Simon, we don’t know if you’ve ever heard those beer commercials about “Real American Heroes,” but seriously, you’re a hero buddy, and you’ve just made it a little bit harder for guys to get girls to like them.  And also, we’re hungry now.  Thanks SO much.
