The Park Slope section of Brooklyn is always mentioned near the tops of every list proclaiming the best neighborhoods in New York; home to one of the cities most beautiful parks, a dozen famous writers, one of our favorite blogs, and people who really won’t stop trying to boycott Israeli products.
For the second time in a year some members of the Park Slope Food Co-op have proposed another boycott of Israeli products from their shelves. A member forwarded us this:
“On page 12 of the Park Slope Food Coop’s Linewaiters Gazette (Nov 4th 2010) [name of member withheld] advised that it is likely that a proposal to boycott products from Israel will soon be submitted to the PSFC’s Agenda Committee for discussion at a future General Meeting. He writes about boycotts in general and that in his opinion the bar for a boycott should be set at 2/3 majority vote. Changing the bar would require a proposal and a vote.”
While there is no word if getting rid of organic, fair trade products from the Holy Land will help spur on peace in the region, one identified “non-practicing, non-Zionist” Jewish member of the Co-0p told me “I’m pretty sure most of the Jews will make sure this doesn’t happen.”
