Monologuist and friend of Jewcy Mike Daisey, had an exciting night Thursday, as a large group of (eighty-seven) Christians walked out in the middle of a performance of his current monologue, INVINCIBLE SUMMER. As they left, one member made a brief detour onto the stage and poured water on Daisey's original show outline while the performer watched in horror.
Mike Daisey issued a brief newsletter announcement linking to a personal write-up of the incident, complete with video footage. You can see that here. He concluded his email with this:
Apologies to all for mailing again so soon, but it's a sobering reminder that speech is never free unless it is defended ardently, and that even simple civility isn't simple when intolerant extremism is involved.
If you were wondering, Daisey was talking about fucking Paris Hilton when the walkout occurred. I tried to think of something funny to say about that, but then I remembered that humor is just tragedy plus time, and I have reason to believe people may still be fucking Paris Hilton.
Cause I care little for copyright infringement, the footage from the event follows. But I do recommend reading Mike Daisey's write-up. It's worthwhile.
I have not checked in here for a while as I thought it was getting boring, but the last few posts are really great quality so I guess I will add you back to my everyday bloglist. You deserve it my friend.
