Newsweek interviews a former Republican campaign operative who went to jail for stifling democracy. He dishes on the dirty tricks of campaigns, such as telephoning voters and pretending to represent liberal causes while using "the voice of a quote-unquote 'scary black man.'"
Says the former operative: "When I was working, the main thing was to win, not to be moral."
