The Sailors Speak

Well, this puts Seaman Turney's coerced confession in even better perspective, doesn't it?

Lt. Felix Carman of the Royal Navy said that when the group was first detained on March 23, the captives were taken to a location and interrogated aggressively through the night. “The handling was rough, but no worse than that,” he said.

Leading Seaman Faye Turney, the only woman among the detainees, was held separately from the men and was told that the men had all been releeased, Captain Air said today. “For four days, she thought she was the only one there,” he said.

A lone woman prisoner of the mullahs… I'm afraid this is a condition that explodes the claim of angry Brits — including Jewcy's favorite NRO contributor John Derbyshire — clamoring for a court martial for the sailors' "betrayal." Turney had every reason to fret about what might become of her had she not toed the Iranian line on television.

I suppose this would count as the Islamic Republic's equivalent of not letting a good deed go unpunished. Turney can forget about that birthday card from Mahmoud now.
