The United Automobile Workers union have gone on strike against DaimlerChrysler, which was recently purchased by a private equity firm called Cereberus (how's that for intimidating labor?) According to the New York Times:
In particular, Chrysler was reluctant to make a commitment to the number of new products would be built in American plants, and to guarantee how many jobs would remain at the company, which is in the midst of a restructuring program. Chrysler officials are said to be seeking flexibility to import vehicles from outside the United States, so they can take advantage of cheaper labor costs.
I'm no trade isolationist, but nor do I find myself willing or able to side against the union that the great anti-Communist and civil rights leader Walter Reuther helped turn into a juggernaut of working-class political power.
You could definitely see your enthusiasm within the paintings you write. The sector hopes for more passionate writers such as you who are not afraid to mention how they believe. Always go after your heart.
