I've been thinking about some of the comments posted about why Jews avoid words like "faith" and the subject bothers me.
Because an aversion to an idea, and an aversion to the semantics surrounding an idea…. are very different things. I wonder if, maybe, our aversion to "faith" is not so much about not wanting to be Christian as it is not wanting to look/sound/appear Christian.
If that's the case, then we just need a good dose of what "faith" is really supposed to be. "Faith" divorced from dumbass Baptist bakesales, fluffy bangs and cheesey smiles that curdle milk. "Faith" is not about being nice, or friendly, or making casseroles. "Faith" is not about praying near a flagpole. "Faith is about radical ideas, social justice, revolution.
And I know I'm lucky, raised as I was with Catholic Worker types all around, and wacky defrocked priests, gay-art-student-services, and demonstrations as prayer. So my aesthetic associations with "faith" might be a little unusual, but LOOK! This is what "faith" can be. Social Justice, smart wry voices, fucking brilliant prose. (Killing the Buddha is always on the money!)
Thanks again for the blog article.Much thanks again. Cool.
I am really glad I’ve found this info. Today bloggers publish only about gossips and web and this is actually annoying. A good website with interesting content, that’s what I need. Thanks for keeping this web site, I’ll be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Cant find it.
Very interesting info !Perfect just what I was searching for!
Regardless, comedy isn’t easy and The Other Guys do an admirable job stepping up.
I really like seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality useful resource for free. Why not hold some sort of contest for your readers?
