Hasids Visit Brokeback Mountain

The Guardian review of Eyes Wide Open makes me think of those sleepovers I used to have when I was twelve where my friends and I would try and sneak a few minutes of whatever softcore film Cinemax or Showtime was presenting:

Zohar Strauss (also to be seen in this week’s Lebanon) plays Aaron, a devout Jerusalem butcher who divides his time between his family, his faith and his chopping board, until he’s distracted by another type of beefcake: a handsome young drifter whom he takes in as an apprentice.

At this point I’m convinced that Larry Flynt is ghostwriting this stuff.  All that’s missing for me to be sure, is something like: "as soon as they’re alone, the kosher meat starts flying, and Zohar gets opened up", or some refrence to Brokeback Mountain.

Oh wait…

It was probably only a matter of time before someone did a Brokeback Mountain on the taboo-stacked world of Orthodox Judaism, although it’s hard to imagine a more niche target audience.
