Miriam Makeba Sings “Erev Shel Shoshanim” and “Sunrise, Sunset”

Grammy Award winner and South African civil rights activist Miriam Makeba, also known as “Mama Africa,” would have turned 82 today. Makeba’s passport was revoked in 1960 after she appeared in the anti-apartheid documentary Come Back, Africa, and she didn’t return to her home country until 1990, following Nelson Mandela’s release from Robben Island.
