A series of paranoid viral e-mails identify Barack Obama as a "covert Muslim" who wants to share U.S. nuclear codes with his (near-namesake, OMG) Osama bin Laden. A forwarded message making the rounds in Jewish circles describes Obama as "Jew hating" and compares him to David Duke(!). "Alan," the author of the e-mail, explains that Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ — which Obama attends — supports a boycott of "apartheid state" Israel and presented its "2007 Lifetime Achievement Award" to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, whom Alan describes as "this country's most vicious Jew/white hater." The e-mail concludes by asking: "Makes you wonder about the media getting all hyped up about Romney's Mormonism and Huckabee's deep seated religious beliefs doesn't it?"
It's unclear whether Alan is a rival campaign operative or simply a concerned citizen. The Trinity United story has already seen exposure (see here and here); Obama's pastor admitted that the Farrakhan relationship means "a lot of [Obama's] Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell." Obama, who seems to have a more sophisticated view of the Middle East than many other candidates (*cough*Iraq*cough*) has addressed AIPAC's concerns, but also said, "Nobody is suffering more than the Palestinian people." He has chided his church's leadership in the past, but his continued membership leaves him open to accusations of guilt by association.
If you have received an Obama smear e-mail — or know if they're part of an orchestrated campaign — please comment in the forum below.
(P.S. In bed the other night, my girlfriend kept describing how "handsome" she considers Obama — is she fantasizing that I'm a "Jew-hating bigot" when she closes her eyes?)
(P.P.S. Our safety word is "David Duke.")
I happen to be commenting to make you know of the extraordinary experience my friend’s princess had reading through your web site. She learned many pieces, most notably what it is like to possess a great coaching mood to have other individuals really easily understand selected problematic topics. You truly did more than visitors’ expected results. I appreciate you for providing these invaluable, trusted, edifying and even fun guidance on this topic to Sandra.
